Rethymno Tennis Club was founded in 1986 by a few people from Rethymno who were passionate about tennis. The founders of the Club were Pantelis Gaganis, Stavros Lagoudakis, Nikos Maragoudakis, Giannis Spandagos, Giorgos Mamalakis and Markos Larios.1996The first sports facilities
The first years were quite difficult to develop kai promote tennis sport in Rethymno, since it was a sport that was not very widespread, mainly in the countryside. There were also no courts in the city and the Club was forced to use the courts of hotels for its activities for about a decade. During this time, it acquired several new members and in 1996, after pressure, Municipality construct two courts in Municipality Sports Center of Gallou. The first children had already started training with coach Takis Galeros, who later staffed the First competitive sector of the Club. The first children of the Club's competitive sector were Dimitris Maragoudakis, Spyros Koronakis, Eleftheria Lagoudaki, Magda Zisimopoulou and Dina Tanaskovic.2000Construct new facilities
Regarding the current facilities of the Club, after many efforts by the Board of Directors of Club, new facilities have been constructed, which include bleachers with seats, men's and women's locker rooms, a gym, a training wall, Club offices, a children's entertainment room, a cafe and a parking area. Two new courts with excellent lighting and a very good quality green surface have also been constructed, while the two old ones have been reconstructed with the same surface with funding from the General Secretariat for Sports. A modern tennis sports center has been created, one of the best in Greece, in a very beautiful location, for the sports of children and members of the Club, with the prospect of constructing two more courts in the existing space. In addition, the members of Club have planted trees in the surrounding area, which together with the existing forest consist an oasis of greenery around our facilities.2003Tournament «Rethymno ΟΡΕΝ»
